Burt's Bees: Helping our children and the planet

Our children will inherit the Earth. What’s more important than showing them how it works? Although it’s not widely known, bees pollinate every third bite of the most delicious and nutritious whole foods we eat. This fall, students across the nation will get a chance to see this first hand in a living classroom.

This June, in honor of National Pollinator Week, Burt’s Bees is partnering with sought-after jewelry designer, Helen Ficalora and the Pollinator Partnership to ensure schools receive BEE SMART SCHOOL GARDEN KITS, which will help schools create bee-friendly gardens or make existing gardens inviting to bees, providing a living demonstration of how vital bees and other pollinators are to our ecosystems.

About the Bee Smart™ School Garden Kit:

The “Bee Smart School Garden Kit” is a new pollinator discovery tool for children in grades 3-5 to learn firsthand the connection between plants, pollinators, and the food we eat.  Each kit will have components that can be used at school, at home, and online to maximize the learning experience, such as lesson plans, seeds for sprouting, and learning games. The Bee Smart™ School Garden Kit will be previewed during Pollinator Week and will be delivered in early September in time for the school year. There will also be curriculum recommendations that will help connect community resources, like local beekeepers, to the outdoor classroom. Each kit will include student incentives from Burt’s Bees to reward students on their path to being more bee-conscious.

Helping raise awareness of the world’s declining bee population, Ficalora created a bespoke sterling silver bee charm to serve as a reminder of the pollinator’s important role in our ecosystem. When the public donates at least $150 (through 9/30/2011) dedicated to the Pollinator Partnership’s BEE SMART SCHOOL GARDEN program, they will receive the charm and a Burt’s Bees® Tinted Lip Balm in Pink Blossom.

We need more bee-conscious children out there!  I love what Burt's Bees is doing for our schools, don't you?!?

I have this tinted lip balm and it is dynamite.  I love the way it glides on and leaves my lips with a healthy rosy glow.  It's so natural and soft.  I also love the subtle sweet smell, not overpowering at all.

Thank you, Burt's Bees.  You are helping children and our planet.  It doesn't get any better than that.

Complimentary product was provided to me from Burt's Bees for this review.  All opinions are my own.
